- Where were you last night?
- I wasn't at the concert. I was at home.
Yesterday at this time, I was sleeping on the beach.
were aux autres personnes.
---|---|---|---|
I was | Was I? | I was not | I wasn't |
You were | Were you? | You were not | You weren't |
He She was It | he? Was she? it? | He She was not it | He She wasn't it |
We were | Were we? | We were not | We weren't |
You were | Were you? | You were not | You weren't |
They were | Were they? | They were not | They weren't |
De même que "il y a..." se dit "there is / there are", on emploiera be au prétérit pour dire "il y avait, il y a eu..." dans un moment du passé.
Cela se traduira par there was ou there were:
There was est suivi d'un singulier
There were est suivi d'un pluriel.
There was an accident on the motorway yesterday.
There were 3,000 people at the concert.
"Was he?").
